Inspired by vintage Italian document boxes that held treasured keepsakes & mementos, each handmade book will be an instant family heirloom. Join artists April Lozevski & Lindy Trenholm in creating a travel-inspired, keepsake bookbox and collaged, art journal of collected finds. Together, we’ll be exploring a variety of mixed media techniques that will allow you to collect and display your stories & travel memories in an artful way. Follow your wanderlust as you craft a beautiful record of a special trip or event, infused with rich texture, layers of history and your personal stories.

WORKSHOP DATES: Thursday, October 17th thru Sunday, October 20th, 2024

  • APRIL'S PROJECT FOR DAY 1 + 2: Wanderlust Book Box ~ Trinkets + Treasures

    Have you ever collected mementos of a special trip or event & wished for a lovely way to display them? Or maybe you're daydreaming of far off places & longing for an artistic path to imagined adventure? Together, we'll be creating a sumptuous lap journal that folds out to hold all sorts of surprises, memories & keepsakes. Each journal will be layered with hand marbled papers, vintage trim & lace. We'll also be altering a bookbox to hold your trinkets & treasures.

    Oh the techniques... collaging, painting, antiquing and learning a variety of ways to age paper & fabric. These cherished books will have vintage soul & grace a shelf in your home as a beautiful reminder of moments long remembered.

    LINDY'S PROJECT FOR DAY 3 + 4: The Paper Chronicles ~ A Book of Collected Papers

    Our Paper Chronicle Books will be filled with the many collected papers, fabric scraps, photos & bits of ephemera we've collected on our journeys. We will be creating a visual record of stories, real or imagined. Using decorative paper, images, text, scraps, mark making tools, needle & thread we will build a book that makes our tales tangible. Textural pages will be accordion folded and held between two altered book covers. The interior folds will form pockets and niches to house small treasures. There will be plenty of opportunity to put your own creative spin & imprint your pages with personal history.

    So gather your favorite vintage papers, photos & travel mementos as well as images torn from magazines, fabric scraps and bits of ephemera. Let your imaginations run wild as we celebrate the art of bookmaking & visual storytelling!

    The Creative Center is only a 7 mile drive from the airport.

    HOTELS + LODGING: The closest hotels are The Hilton Garden Inn, Hyatt Place & Scottsdale Marriott, all in Old Town Scottsdale. These are within one mile of the studio & plenty of restaurants, shopping & activities within walking distance!

    THIS WORKSHOP IS NOT REFUNDABLE: You may transfer your spot to another person if you are unable to attend. Please contact us right away so we can connect you with someone on the wait list.
